Frontline App

Guest Speaker - Amy Rowson.

Minutes:

I would like to welcomeAmy Rowson from Frontline.  Frontline is an mobile Application that gives information about local services which has a number of functions such as requesting a call back from service providers.  The App is all about helping people to help themselves by getting support as early on as possible.  The App is free for everyone across the county.

The full directory of services for the Epping Forest District is available at www.eppingforestfrotnline.org.uk

The EFYC suggested that they would be a good contact to deliver the message to members of staff at their schools.

Action: information packs about  Frontline will be included in the teachers pack, and distributed at the Health and Wellbeing Youth Conference on 22 November 2019. 

Action: Frontline will also have an information table at the Health and Wellbeing Youth Conference 2019.

Whipps Cross Hospital Consultation

Guest Speaker - Abbas Mirza.

Minutes:

Abbas Mirza from Barts Health Trust gave a short presentation about building a brand new Whipps Cross Hospital, including a maternity ward.  Abbas is consulting with the EFYC because 8% of the hospital patients come from Epping Forest District. 

Action: EFYC to complete the hospital engagement survey www.bartshealth.nhs.uk/future-whipps

Action: Youth councillors to write in to Abbas with your ideas for the new Whipps Cross hospital.

School Updates

Youth Councillors to report on school issues, achievements, events and training that they have accomplished since the last meeting.

Minutes:

Youth Councillors updated each other on the youth council work in school, including

school display updates and suggestion boxes

Braeside - No representative present

Chigwell - No representative present

Davenant – Archie, Barnaby, Eleanor, James and Onyeka: Youth Councillors have attended the first School Councilmeeting, the school open evening had over 1000 people attending, school photos took place.  Eleanor and Jasmine went round to classes in upper forms to distribute former Youth Councillor and student at Durham University, Evie Foster’s Milife survey. YEA ballot papers distributed 

Debden Park High - No representative present

Epping St Johns - Megan:  Megan and Oliver have supported the delivery of the WeRSafe assemblies to Year 7, 8 and 9.  Non-Uniform day planned for the anti-racism educational charity Show Racism the Red Card.  Mental Health Awareness Day upcoming

Ongar - No representative present

Roding Valley High - Zak: Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards taken place

King Harold Academy - There have had PHSE days going on this week.  School photos and open evening

 

Other Updates - Neighbourhood Action Panel meeting-Archie gave the WeRSafe presentation to the NAP Group.

CRY Fund Raising

Minutes:

Resources for Cry Fundraising information packs for schools is ready to be to be made into packs.

Action: Di and Paula to make up packs and distribute at next Full Council meeting.

Action: EFYC to get date booked in school diary for hosting fundraising event and confirm date of fundraising events at next Full Council meeting.

We 'R' Safe Assemblies & Meetings

Megan, Oliver and Archie to report.

Minutes:

EFYC members have delivered assemblies at Epping St Johns school to Year 7, 8 and 9.  Megan and Oliver supported the event as presenters.

 

179.

Youth Conference

Di to report.

Minutes:

Planning meetings are still being held with the West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group to deliver a Youth Conference in Epping on Friday 22 November.  The theme is health and wellbeing, the Conference will include a Youth debate. The Right Honourable Dame Eleanor Laing will be attending, along with representatives from the NHS team and Epping Forest District Council members. It is planned that the Youth Councillors will host the conference and lead the debate. The debate will be around Healthy eating. Youth Councillors will be hosting the day and roles will be decided at a future meeting.

Young Citizen of the Year

Minutes:

The Young Citizen of the Year 2020 nomination form is available online and the closing date is 29th November.  It is an award for a young person living in the Epping Forest District who has done something exceptional in the community.

 

Action: EFYC to make sure your schools and teachers are aware of the Young Citizen of the Year Award 2019, and encourage teachers to nominate pupils at their schools or other young people in the district for the award.

Submission forms

To consider any new submission forms received and to give updates on any previous submission form.

Minutes:

The High Sheriff of Essex Dr James Bettley would like to attend a future youth council meeting on Tuesday 12 November as an observer.

 

Susan Lewis will be visiting on Tuesday 26 November to talk about the District Councils Customer strategy and Customer Focus Group.

Eleanor and Dan gave the WE R SAFE presentation to the YEA, they received really positive feedback from YEA members and staff.
