Guest speakers Guest speakers, Sydnae, Natalie, Aliza - EFYC Project ideas Minutes: A presentation was given to address equality, equity and the importance of encouraging girls into male dominated jobs. Sydnae and Natalie were inspired by the members observing that there were less girls present at the Youth Council presentation to the Overview & scrutiny committee. Sydnae reported that it is was important to reduce discrimination and to look at ways they can address this concern as a Youth Council. Natalie reported that it was also important that young women and women of colour are involved in local politics. Sarah reported that the language used should accommodate for trans individuals, as 80% of UK secondary schools have children who do not identify with their gender at birth and often, they can be unintentionally excluded by the language used.
Actions: Sydnae and Natalie would like to lead a equalities sub group. The group members to conduct a survey in schools, targeting girls, identifying their future career ideas.
The subgroup to contact schools to ask if they would like/need equalities workshops delivered in schools.
To raise awareness, the Equalities subgroup to create a logo promoting equality and diversity, that can be added to sign off emails.
