Confirmation of Chairman & Vice-Chairman

To agree the Chairman and Vice-Chairman for the meeting.

Youth Council Elections

To update Youth Councillors on the forth coming elections.

Minutes:

Di advised that the closing date for nominations had been extended to Friday 20April 2018.

 

Raaj suggested starting projects that could be run and delivered in schools. Gaby suggested that working with the Citizen Advice on a smaller project around life skills, applying for jobs etc could be a possibility.

 

Gaby and Di advised that they would continue to work with senior leadership teams within the schools and explain about what Youth Councillors are and what they do.

 

Gaby thanked Oliver for his contributions in the assemblies at Ongar Academy.

 

The Youth Councillors would be required to assist with the assemblies held over a two week period between Monday 8 May 2018 to Friday 18 May 2018 and provisional  dates for elections were as follows;

Youth Councillors two year term would officially terminate in October 2018 but whilst the new Youth Councillors were establishing themselves, current Youth Councillors would be working as mentors between June – October and helping to co-facilitating their training.

 

Anyone under 18 and wishing to stand for a further 2 years should complete the nomination form in the booklet and run an election campaign in school.

 

The results would be announced by Chairman on Tues 22 May 2018.

Drugs Project Update

Di/Abigail to update on the drugs project.

Minutes:

Di advised that 2884 surveys had bee4n completed and Debden Park were the only school not to complete the surveys. The meeting with Ashwin and Jacab with Mr Ventura had not taken place due to the snow.

 

ACTION: Di to arrange a lunchtime stand with Ashwin and Jacob at Debden Park to the promote the survey.  www.tinyurl.com/efycsurvey

Youth Councillor Updates

Youth Councillors to report on school issues, achievements, events and training that they have been involved in since the last meeting.

Minutes:

Chigwell School – Youth Councillors would continue to promote the elections.

 

Davenant Foundation School – Youth Councillors would speak to teachers about election dates.

 

Debden Park High School– Youth Councillors advised that they had spoken to their teacher about promoting the elections and a meeting with his teacher had been arranged with Diane. They would also promote the drug survey.

 

Ongar Academy – Oliver advised that snow days had stopped much progress since last meeting. There had been a successful elections promotion through assemblies and lunch time stalls. 

 

Roding Valley High School – Raaj advised that he had helped out at lunchtime’s stall, to promote Youth Council Elections. Raaj had also been chosen to participate in a Jack Petchey ‘Speak Out’ competition.

 

Independent Members– Zac and Regan would promote the elections throughout clubs etc.

10th Anniversary

Minutes:

Following the date confirmation of Wednesday 4 July 2018 at 7 –pm -9 pm at the Houses of Parliament, Youth Councillors discussed the dress code. They concluded that they would like to dress smart rather than wearing a uniform and Chris suggested name badges as a comprise.

·                     Communities Safety Partnership Fund – Youth Councillors needed to consider what to spend the £750 from the Communities Safety Partnership fund on and how to continue the community work with the Essex Police Cadets.

 

(b)          Notices by Becky

 

·                     Youth Council Meeting on 3 April 2018 had been cancelled.

 

·                     Jack Petchey Awards – The following Youth Councillors had been invited to attend the Jack Petchey Awards on 7 March 2018 at the Kenneth More Theatre, Oakfield Road, Ilford 7 – 9pm; Chris, Charley, Annabelle, Jacob, Jude, Finlay and Davin.

 

·                     Communities Select  Committee –

 Youth Councillors Annabelle, Adam, Fin, Marley and Ashwin would make the presentation to Members and were required at 6 pm on Tuesday 13 March 2018. Di and Gaby would be in attendance to help support the Youth Councillors.

 

·                     Civic Awards – Youth Councillors Jacob, Abigail, Adam, Annabelle and Suzie would be attending the awards on Friday 16 March 2018. Youth Councillors were required to be dressed smartly and arrive at 6.45 pm, finishing at 10 pm. The event was being held at the Marriot Hotel in Waltham Abbey.

 

·                     Motiv8 – Youth Councillors Lisa, Marley, Annabelle, Suzannah and Jacob would be attending the event held at the Epping College on Monday 26 March 2018 at 7 pm – 9pm.

 

(c)          Notices by Gaby

 

·                     National Crime Beat Awards – Officers, Youth Councillor Adam Freeman and 3 Youth Councillors from the previous cohort would be attending the event on 18 April 2018

 

·                     Commonwealth Celebrations – The Lord Lieutenant of Essex had invited all districts to take part in a commonwealth celebration service at Chelmsford cathedral on Sunday 29 April 2018. The Chairman, Councillor D Stallan would be attending the event and had invited Youth Councillors to represent the district with him. Youth Councillors interested in this event should contact Di.

 

(d)          Notices by Youth Councillors

 

·                     Lisa suggested a volunteering day with elderly people. Youth Councillors decided that this would take place in April 2018.

Date of Next Meeting

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 1 May 2018 at 19.00 – 21.00 at the Civic Offices.
