Conder Building

There is some confusion over the name of the Conder building.

It is appearing in a lot in documents and communications at the moment and it is important to get it right and maintain consistency.

It is in fact spelled CondEr and not CondOr, (after the bird). Apparently that was the name of the architect who worked on the development.

Consultation on the Draft Green Infrastructure Strategy

The Council is consulting on the Draft Green Infrastructure Strategy between 4 June 2020 and 16 July 2020 (see document on the Council’s website https://www.eppingforestdc.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Draft%20green%20infrastructure%20strategy.pdf.  This supports the Council’s declaration of a climate change emergency.

The Strategy seeks to identify projects to improve the green spaces and water based places in the District for the benefit of local communities and the environment.  The Strategy contains a mix of larger scale and smaller community based projects, with both short term and long term initiatives.

One of the key aims is to provide a wide range of open spaces for communities to use:  places to walk and enjoy the outdoors including by the rivers and canals; children’s play space including wilder places to play; space for wildlife, and more trees to capture carbon and provide shade.

It is also about providing alternative provision to the important ecological sites in the District to take the recreational pressure away from these sites. This includes Epping Forest and other important ecological sites – the idea is that new open spaces will relieve the visitor pressure on the Forest and other important natural places and help them to survive and regenerate the plant, insect and wildlife that relies on them.  Some of these proposed new spaces are part of the proposals for new housing developments in the District.

The Council is keen to hear views about the new spaces that are being introduced, and other project ideas for Green Infrastructure in the District. Indeed, you might know of a space that could be improved or put to better use.

Look out also for an invitation to an online workshop being held for District and Town and Parish Councillors that is being held on 2 July 2020 at 7.30pm.

For more information see the Green Infrastructure Strategy web page https://www.eppingforestdc.gov.uk/planning-and-building/planning-policy/green-infrastructure-strategy/ which provides links to the draft strategy, frequently asked questions and a short survey.
