Member Training _ Speed Reading on Electronic Devices

SUBJECT:                   Speed Reading on Electronic Devices

DATE(S)                      8 October 2018

VENUE:                       CR1

TIME/DURATION:       6.00pm ~ 8.30pm

PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE(S) – Laptops and tablets

WHY YOU SHOULD COME TO THIS COURSE:

With the increased reliance on electronic devices in the paperless era, reading and retaining the information contained in high volumes of written documents is a skill. This session is designed to help you develop the skills required to effectively manage this new way of working.

SUMMARY OF COURSE CONTENT

This is a highly interactive 2.5-hour session that has been developed for Councillors at Epping Forest District Council, who have high volumes of reading material to manage as part of their role.

During the workshop we will be using a variety of different exercises and examples to show ways in which readers can double their speed, without losing retention.

Whilst covering traditional ‘paper’ speed reading techniques, the emphasis will be around reading from electronic screens and Members will be asked to bring a tablet or laptop with them to the session.

Please contact Kim Partridge, kpartridge@eppingforestdc.gov.uk to confirm you attendance.

Committee Agendas Etc. - Electronic Summons

A number of members have now indicated that they wish to receive specific agenda etc. solely by electronic means. With effect from 10 September 2018, no physical copies of agenda will therefore be provided for such members.

All members are encouraged to give consent to the receipt of meeting summons by electronic means wherever possible. The app for the committee management system allows agendas, minutes and reports etc. to be downloaded to mobile devices. Training in the use of the committee management system is provided for members on a regular basis.
