In medieval times, High Ongar and the surrounding area were probably no more than tiny settlements along the Essex Way, an historic footpath linking Epping and Harwich, and St Peters Way, which links Epping and Bradwell-on-Sea.
The Parish lies to the east of the main town of Ongar and includes High Ongar Village, Nine Ashes, Paslow Common and Norton Heath.
