Confirmation of Chairman and Vice Chairman for the meeting

At the last meeting it was agreed that Rory would chair this meeting. Julie would be Vice-Chairman.

13.

Julie Chandler - Assistant Director of Community Services

Julie Chandler to give a short introduction and explain her role within the Council in relation to the Youth Council.

Minutes:

Julie Chandler had sent her apologies and would reschedule for a future meeting.

14.

Councillor Kane Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Community Services

Minutes:

Councillor Kane, the new Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Community Services attended the meeting to introduce herself to the Youth Council and see what happened at the meetings.  

15.

Feedback from Events

Youth Councillors to feedback on events attending since the last meeting including the Jack Petchey Speak out event, the Radio Project and the Pamper Event.

Minutes:

a)         Jack Petchey Speak Out Event

 

Julie advised that she had attended the event as a judge. The Jack Petchey's ‘Speak Out Challenge!’was the largest speaking competition for young people in the world. The Champions would now be put forward to the national finals.

 

b)         Radio Project

 

Doncho advised that a number of Youth Councillors had attended the event, which involved creating a radio advert and promoting the Youth Council.

 

c)         Pamper Event

 

Leonora advised that she had attended the Pamper Event at Way2000 a Waltham Abbey Youth Club with Chloe and Hazel.

16.

Items of Business from previous meeting

1.            Matthew to advise about any research he has completed on Age ID Cards for Young People.

 

2.         George to advised on updates for the Tube Map..

 

3.         Youth Councillors to discuss future projects.

 

4.         Youth Councillors to advise of any issues to be looked into from their Schools

 

5.         Leonora to advised on any school issues that have come forward.

 

6.         George to advise on any progress on a Youth Council app.

Minutes:

1.            Age ID Cards for Young People

 

Matthew advised that the Sixth Form Oyster cards had ‘date of birth information’, so TFL could be approached to include young people from the age they attend  secondary school. He added that Citizen Cards for educational groups could be obtained for free, although a nominated teacher would need to be responsible for the application forms and distribution of the cards. Members interested in taking this idea to their schools, can get further information from www.citizencard.com

 

2.         Tube Map

 

Joe advised that he had received comments about additional clubs to be added and that more diversity was required.

 

ACTION: To discuss improving the tube map at the project meeting on 15 July 2014.

 

3.         Future Projects.

 

Doncho – To improve relationships between schools in a positive way rather than competitive way.

 

Leonora – To improve access to help for victim of bullying. Various ideas were discussed including memory sticks, a website and promoting current websites.

 

G Wallis advised that funding needed to be thought about for any future projects and how the Youth Council could raise funds to support the project groups.

 

ACTION: The various ideas to be discussed at the project meeting 15 July 2014, to allow Youth Councillors to decide on future projects.

 

4.         School Issues

 

Leonora advised of older pupils disrespecting younger pupils on public transport to and from school.

 

ACTION: PC Zoe Walker, Youth Officer to be invited to a future meet with the Youth Council to discuss school issues.

 

5.         Youth Council app

 

George advised that creating an app for the Youth Council was easy and could be produced for free using the web. The application would be able to promote all of the Youth Councils projects. Matthew advised that not all of the app’s sites were free and it would need some consideration.

 

ACTION: Di to discuss with PR the creation of an app for the Youth Council.

18.

Business for next meeting

(i)            To agree Julie as Chairman for the next meeting; and

(ii)           Members to raise items of business for consideration at the next meeting.

Minutes:

(i)            The Chairman for the next meeting would be Julie and the Vice-Chairman would be Joe.

(ii)           Business for the next meeting raised by Youth Councillors;

 

·       Neighbourhood Action Panel (NAP) – Jaymey advised Youth Councillors that he attended his local NAP, which provide information and contact with the local Police. Anyone could join their local NAP, it just required searching on the internet for the local meeting point.

·       School Council – Joe advised that he and Julie were attending their school council and would report back.

ACTION: ALL Members to contact and meet their School Councils.

(a)                  Notices by Diane;

 

·         ‘Be the Change’ Essex Police Crime Commissioner Youth Conference on the 1st July. There are 4 places and you must be between 15 and 18 years old to attend.

·         Local Democracy Week – Tuesday 14 October 2014. The Question Time type event to be held by the Youth Council involving attendees from secondary schools to celebrate Democracy Week.

·         Speed Meeting Event – Wednesday 9 July 2014. Youth Councils to meet senior officers within the Council and Councillors.

·         Jack Petchey Awards – Each year Youth Councillors can nominate another to win a Jack Petchey award for their contribution to the Youth Council work and volunteering. Nominations would be required shortly.

 

(b)                  Notices by Lexi;

 

·         Youth Strategy Group – Jaymey, Olivia and Fred to attend the meeting on 25 June 2014.

·         North Weald Association Anniversary – 5 July 2014, North Weald Methodist Church, attendees must advise Di or Lexi.

·         Jack Petchey Speak Out Final – Monday 14 July 2014 in London. Tickets can be obtained through the website.

·         Rural Routes - Fyfield – Saturday 9 August 2014. Any volunteers must advise Di or Lexi.

·         O2 Bid – George, Julie and Joe volunteered to put together a bid for the O2 funding.

·         It’s a Knock out - Debden, Loughton – Saturday 12 July 2014. Teams of 10 are required at a cost of £10 each.Funds were being raised for the Haven House Children’s Hospice If Youth Councillors wanted to enter, it had to be funded by themselves.

·         Facebook ‘EFYC – Epping Forest Youth Council’ – Please use the correct Youth Council page on Facebook.

 

(c)                  Youth Councillor Notices

 

·         Town Mead Faye – 28-29 June 2014. Chloe would be attending and would hand out business cards.
